2019 DIVERSITY SUMMIT
The Center is pleased to announce the second annual Diversity Summit to be held on November 13, 2019 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC. The event will build upon the success of the 2018 inaugural Summit that drew over 300 thought leaders within and outside financial planning for a discussion of initiatives to advance racial diversity in the financial planning profession. Last year’s event also featured the release of Racial Diversity in Financial Planning: Where We are and Where We Must Go, the Center’s research-based thought leadership paper that outlines actionable solutions for industry stakeholders to create a more inclusive profession.
The 2019 Diversity Summit will build upon this momentum and will focus on accountability, highlighting what key stakeholder groups are doing to implement the Center’s recommendations and advance diversity in financial planning. We are expecting a similar level of interest and turnout this year, including executives from firms, leaders from CFP Board Registered Programs, experts in diversity and inclusion, and organizations focused on advancing people of color. If you are interested in participating in the upcoming Summit, or know individuals who fit this bill, please contact Eddy Demirovic, Manager of Programs and Operations at the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning, at email@example.com.
Additional information regarding the 2019 Diversity Summit, including registration instructions, will be available soon.
LEARN ABOUT 2018 DIVERSITY SUMMIT
The CFP Board Center for Financial Planning launched over two years ago with a big vision – to ensure every American has access to competent and ethical financial planning advice. This vision can only become a reality with a more diverse and sustainable financial planning profession. However, blacks and Latinos represent less than 3.5 percent of all CFP® professionals.
To address this issue head on, the Center hosted its first-ever Diversity Summit at on October 23, 2018 at The Times Center in New York City. The seminal event provided a platform for a discussion of initiatives that can be undertaken by the Center, in partnership with stakeholders within the financial planning profession and beyond, to advance racial diversity in the financial planning profession.
At the 2018 Diversity Summit, the Center released Racial Diversity in Financial Planning: Where We Are and Where We Must Go, a thought leadership paper that outlines actionable solutions for industry stakeholders to create a more inclusive profession. The report was developed in consultation with the Center’s Diversity Advisory Group, and is based on findings from the Center’s comprehensive research study on the underrepresentation of blacks and Latinos in the financial planner workforce.
300 thought leaders in financial planning and beyond, including:
- Executives from financial services firms
- Organizations lead by and focused on people of color
- Program directors from colleges and universities with CFP Board-registered financial planning programs
- Financial planning practitioners
